Types of sounds and methods of audio commentary

 Human voices are divided into low-frequency male voices whose range on the musical scale is from, c2 to c5.

and female high-frequency vocals whose scale ranges from C6 to F3.

The female voice is divided into three types in one range with different frequencies:







1- Alto:

It is the highest frequency sound among women's voices and is the largest among them, and it falls on the musical scale starting from F3 to F5.


2- Mezzo-Soprano

This sound comes at a higher frequency than the alto, and has some loudness, which falls on the musical scale from A3 to A5.

Most of the women with this voice can reach higher and lower frequency degrees, because this voice is the average in this range.


 3- Soprano

It is the highest frequency sound among all sounds, and it is the sound like whistling, which falls on the musical scale starting from C4 to C6.

It is difficult to master, contrary to what some believe, as it requires a lot of training until the female reaches a high frequency like the soprano.


 The male voice is divided into three types in one range with different frequencies:


1- Bass:

It is the lowest frequency and largest sound on the musical scale, which falls on the musical scale from E2 to E4, and is usually used by old men opera singers, and is helped by the relaxation of their vocal cords that occurs with age.


2- Baritone:

Which falls on the musical scale starting from A2 to A4, and this sound comes with a frequency higher than the bass and less massive than it, and the word baritone means in Greek (deep), and the baritone, although it is lower in frequency than the bass, but it remains one of the huge sounds, which are also used by opera singers. Those between the ages of 40 to 50 years.


3- Tenor:

This sound comes with a higher frequency than the baritone, and the word tenor in Greek means C5 to C3, which falls on the musical scale starting with (the governor), and the tenor is the highest masculine voice in existence. It is sometimes used in opera songs, but it is frequently used in the field of pop.

Recitation means reading the textual content in an organized and coordinated manner, often in a standard dialect. Voice commentators are frequently used to recite poetry and poems that need serious and strong tones, such as epic or historical poems, and often the audience has an appropriate amount of knowledge and cultural sophistication to enjoy the pleasure of following.


descriptive commentary style

It is considered one of the most common methods of commentary at the present time, as it is used a lot in the cinematic fields; When the director is satisfied with the picture only without any conversation between people explaining the identity, personal details or a place, then the voiceover starts talking, describing and providing the viewer with additional information.


Commentary style

This method is used in specific situations and often when discussing a new issue for the first time presented to the public, or displaying an advertisement for a new product (commodity - medicine - electrical device - method of cooking food), and here the audio commentator is resorted to explaining the scene and explaining any ambiguity that may appear in The image includes data and details about the product, how to use and maintain it, where to buy it, how to receive it, its price and impact, its advantages and disadvantages.


Self-commenting style

In this type or method of commenting, we find that the narrator or audio commentator talks about himself, his memories, his past, his hopes and ambitions, and the state of his homeland and those around him. Just reading the text. 


Objective commentary style

It means giving the opportunity to present all opinions and trends, and this method of objective education is often used when talking about a controversial issue on the radio or a documentary or historical film, so that each commentator is assigned to talk about a point of view, a person, a country or an institution, each separately.


direct commentary style

This type we often see in advice and guidance programs, religious fatwas, social and educational programs, and other media content that requires direct speech to the audience.
